Some world records measure extraordinary feats of strength or perseverance. In fact, we’ve recently seen a 58-year-old woman make history for holding a plank for 4.5 hours straight. Other world records, however, make people wonder why they exist in the first place. One example of this is the “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Dinosaurs,” which was set in Los Angeles in 2019 with 252 people. But several days ago, a group of over 3,000 dinosaur enthusiasts gathered in Drumheller, Alberta, to break this record.

The only rules that attendees had to follow were that they had to be in a full-body dinosaur costume with the headpiece and body of a dinosaur. Additionally, participants were discouraged from wearing ride-on style dinosaur costumes. Unsurprisingly, having 3,000 people pour into your town dressed in dinosaur costumes certainly creates for interesting visuals, and photos and videos have been popping up all over social media detailing the incredible sight. Thankfully, Drumheller was ready for the crowd of record breakers, and had set up a wide variety of activities for the visitors in their downtown area. These included games as well as live music, and the sight of a crowd of inflatable dinosaur costumes rocking out to local bands is a sight to behold.

Drumheller was chosen as the location of this record-breaking event due to its self-proclaimed status as the “World Capital of Dinosaurs.” This is largely due to the sheer amount of important fossil discoveries that have been made there. The town leans into this reputation, and is home to Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology as well as the “World's Largest Dinosaur,” an 86-foot-tall fiberglass Tyrannosaurus rex statue that is affectionately named Tyra.

In a town full of records, the crowd of 3,000 passionate dinosaur lovers just helped to add yet another one to the books. Even though Guinness has yet to publicly recognize the record, it will certainly be a feat that is remembered by all who participated for a long time to come.

3,000 people who dressed in inflatable dinosaur suits recently broke the world record of “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Dinosaurs” in Drumheller, Alberta.

Who can resist a baby animal in distress? Certainly not a well-intentioned English woman, who discovered an abandoned baby hedgehog on a sidewalk one evening. Worried for its safety, this unnamed woman took the tiny critter home and nursed it through the night, before taking it to an animal hospital in the morning. Once she got to the hospital, a startling discovery was made—the hedgehog wasn't a hedgehog at all. Instead, it was a stray pom pom that would normally be found sitting atop a woolen beanie.

The concerned woman had carefully brought the wayward pom pom in its own newspaper-lined box, complete with a small food bowl. As funny as this situation is in hindsight, one can only hope she felt more relief than embarrassment when the veterinary staff at the Lower Moss Wood Nature Reserve & Wildlife Hospital informed her of her mistake. Luckily, any laughs to be had would be in good fun, and she'd surely join in.

The news story has since made its way to Reddit, with a community of users chiming in. Everyone seems to be supportive of the woman's decision to take care of what she believed was a poor baby animal, no matter how misplaced her concern may have been. One user wrote, “This is hilarious for obvious reasons, but it’s a lovely story that made me smile. The news is so often full of unhappy stories, particularly over the last few years. That this lady’s immediate response was one of kindness and looking out for what she thought was a living thing was heartwarming to me.”

Others noted the similarities between the hedgehog-imposter to the tribble, a fictional fuzzball creature from Star Trek, with one comment saying, “They're saying it's a bobble but it's obviously a tribble… And if we run out of tribbles (pfft, yeah right) we can fool the klingons with bobbles.” And funnily enough, there are actually several crafters who make hedgehog pom poms, making this case of mistaken identity all the more understandable.

An English woman recently made national headlines when she brought an abandoned baby hedgehog to an animal hospital…

She soon found out that the “baby hedgehog” was actually just a fluffy pom pom.

While this case of mistaken identity is undoubtedly a funny one, people online have been praising the woman for doing the right thing, even if it turned out to be a bit of fuzz.

The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh

Creative freelancers and people in the advertising industry know all about baseless feedback. What feels like a great and fresh idea is pitched to a client, only for it to be met with negative and unreasonably critical responses that take the soul out of the concept. The Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) is aware that not even the best creators out there are safe from this. Even people like Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo would be met with skepticism had they ever tried their hand at advertising. Two clever videos commissioned by AICP imagine how these two iconic painters would deal with client feedback—something many creatives can relate to.

Directed by O Positive’s Brian Billow and created by agency BBDO, the clips were released ahead of the 2024 AICP Awards deadline of March 12, which is celebrating “museum-worthy” ideas. Fittingly, the winners of the competition will join the film archive of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City. These funny ads for the 2024 Awards are aptly captioned with the tagline: “It's hard to make museum-worthy art. It's even harder to make museum-worthy ads.”

The Museum-Worthy video brings contemporary advertising drama to Van Gogh's studio. Dressed up in period clothing, two account executives approach the artist with their biggest smiles to relay the news: “The client loved the painting.” They're talking about The Starry Night, but that's not the end of the feedback. “They just found it a little, um, dark.” They then ask the Dutch artist if he could paint a “sunny day” instead, but keep the title because the client loves it. Of course, this completely changes the concept and the intention behind Van Gogh's work. It seems like an absurdist suggestion…but many creatives, especially those in advertising, can surely relate to this.

The video then makes a shift to 1930s Mexico, and Frida Kahlo is getting comments on her Self-portrait with monkey. Turns out one of the junior clients found the forehead area “off-putting and confrontational,” while the CMO's husband—a foreign entity to the process—simply didn't get it, making it “unrelatable.” Things don't get better for either of them. Van Gogh's painting failed with a focus group—”How can a painting fail?” he asks—so an 19th-century influencer with “a ton of followers” (aka a priest) is brought in. The Focus Group video goes into detail as to what went down with the focus group, who drag the painting in every possible way. Meanwhile, Kahlo gets suggestions for her self-portrait. Why not change the monkey for puppies? “People trust puppies,” says one of the execs, followed by another's supportive “It's proven.”

The whole exchange between the account executives and the creatives is hilarious and spot on. In fact, we dare say they are “museum-worthy.” Scroll down to watch both of these painfully funny videos below.

The Association of Independent Commercial Producers imagined what it'd look like if Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo had to deal with client feedback the way ad creatives do today.

One of their clips shows a period focus group—one of the advertising world's favorite tools—dragging Van Gogh's The Starry Night in every possible way.

Clever Social Media Account Matches Top Sport Moments of 2024 So Far With Works of Art

We may be less than 100 days into 2024, but the world of sports has already seen some things that are going straight into the history books. And all the while, an art lover with a keen eye continues to match these moments to fine art pieces, much to the delight of their followers. After its breakthrough in 2023, Art But Make It Sports is stronger than ever, finding uncanny resemblances between two areas that can feel so disconnected at times.

The clever account is run by LJ Rader, who is clearly gifted at pairing a sports photo with art he's seen before. The accuracy in the matches is so unbelievable that many fans have wondered if there is any use of AI involved, but Rader assures there isn't. The speed and brilliance with which he finds visual and thematic pairs is a testament to his deep art knowledge.

Among the 2024 sports moments that have been art-ified is the rise of Caitlin Clark as the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I. Rader expertly matched an image of the celebrations to a procession of Queen Elizabeth I. Clark also led Iowa to victory in the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament. Her Kobe Bryant-inspired picture was then compared to a painting of the Virgin Mary.

At Art But Make It Sports, athletes are not the only ones that inspire comparisons. Rader matched an image of a soccer referee bewilderingly giving two cards at the same time to a Miró painting, while the image of a fan carrying his baby (who looks like he's drinking from a can of beer) was compared to an artwork featuring an infant Jesus drinking wine.

Ultimately, few events sparked as many funny moments as the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl. From Patrick Mahomes' broken helmet to Travis Kelce's Kusama-like shiny outfits, the Kansas City Chiefs games were full of quirky scenes. Still, nothing beats winning the Super Bowl—well, maybe one thing does. Kelce's brother, Jason, starred in a roaring celebration that will live forever in the memories of fans as a modern version of The Feast of Bacchus.

Weatherman Adam Krueger has won the hearts of music fans by cleverly inserting lyrics into his live TV forecasts. Working based on fan suggestions, he gets many requests from pop music fans. Recently, one of his latest attempts showed no genre is out of his reach. Krueger tried his hand at sneaking lyrics from the heavy metal act Disturbed, impressing even the members of the band.

After taking a request for Metallica's “Enter Sandman,” a lot of metalheads began following Krueger and asked him to include their favorite bands. Looking at the upcoming weather for the Houston area, where he is based, Krueger got an idea. The region was expecting a big burst of cedar pollen, which sparks allergies in many people. And so he thought Disturbed's “Down with the Sickness,” one of their most famous songs, would be the perfect fit.

In the clip, Krueger can be seen driving to work as he vibes to the heavy metal track. Once in front of his trusty green screen, the fun beings. Committed to the bit, he even included the “ooh-wah ah-ah-ah” guttural sounds made by lead singer David Draiman.

After inserting lyrics from 200 songs in his weather report, Krueger is now a master of his craft. That's why he daringly found a way to sneak lyrics like “drowning this in my sea of loathing,” as well as “when silently in changes, violently it changes” to address the pollen and gusts of Arctic air.

Krueger has said that the ultimate compliment is for the band featured in a video to share it or comment on it. Luckily, this time the video made its way to Disturbed, who wrote, “Awesome,” along with some horn hand signs on Instagram, much to the delight of their fans.

To stay up to date with Krueger's latest weather-music mashups, make sure to follow him on Instagram and TikTok.

In many places, especially in small towns, it is common for people to greet everyone they come across, even those they don't know. For one woman in Italy, this included saying hello to a cat in the street. But much to her surprise—and that of the world—the kitty replied, “buongiorno,” to her. Or so it seems.

The video, which has been shared across multiple social media platforms, shows a woman named Francesca cheerily says, “buongiorno,” to a cat named Paulo, who is seen eating his meal on the sidewalk. Without missing a beat, the kitty looks up from his plate and lets out a meow with the same rhythm and structure as the “buongiorno” he just heard. Did he simply know how to reply from all the time he has listened to that word? The woman is delighted, saying, “Did you just say, ‘Good morning' to me?” and gets up close to the cat, who happily stretches and goes on with his day. The “buongiorno cat” has since gone viral and even become a meme, especially amongst Italians who have claimed Paulo as one of their own.

As surprising as this wholesome interaction is, it isn't even the first animal that “speaks” Italian that we've heard of. Last year, a husky dog made waves for barking with a distinctively Italian accent, seemingly picking it up from its humans. Despite how fun it is, this seems to be part of a larger scientific phenomenon. According to a study conducted in the UK, dogs copying regional accents is a common occurrence. The researchers came to this conclusion after listening to recordings of dogs' barks and growls that had been submitted to a panel, where they found variations from area to area. This may be true for the cat, which not only makes it super adorable, but also quite polite. Good morning to you too, kitty!

Watch as a woman in Italy says, “buongiorno,” to a cat, and without missing a beat, the kitty looks up and lets out a meow that sounds exactly like “buongiorno.”

Paulo the cat has since gone viral and become a meme for identifying Italian cats.

Funny Video Series Imagines What It Would Be Like if Fonts Could Talk to Each Other

You don't need to be a designer to know that different fonts serve different purposes. For example, typefaces with serifs—those little tails at the end of the letters—make it easier to read long texts, while sans serifs (meaning without serifs) offer a clearer design that you can recognize quickly, like subway stop names.  Playing on this idea, Elle Cordova has created some funny videos imagining how typefaces would interact with one another.

Cordova imagines the famed Times New Roman as a reflective person. Wearing glasses and a sensible cable knit sweater, this typeface doesn't dwell on the past. “Do I miss being the default font? No,” Cordova says, impersonating the font. “Like I told Calibri back in 2007, I've done my time.” A fellow serif replies that it was made for newspapers and shouldn't be languishing “in double spaced essays written by eighth-graders.”

In Cordova's tale, the sans serifs like Futura and Arial disagree, saying that their counterparts “think they're so important just because they're wearing little top hats and booties.” But it's not all arguments between these anthropomorphized typefaces. Cordova also imagines an whole story arc in which Arial falls head over heels for designer-favorite Helvetica, who doesn't miss a beat telling an excited Papyrus there's no room for them at its “art poster thing.”

For a video that is a little over a minute, Cordova expertly outlines the personalities of a handful of typefaces. Even the controversial Comic Sans makes an appearance, donning colorful hair and a tie-dye sweatshirt.

In a follow up video, Cordova even addresses a shake up in the design world. In 2023, Microsoft switched from Calibri to Aptos as their new default font. And so, Calibri one day walks into work and notices someone sitting in its chair. Having been through the same experience, Times New Roman offers some comfort, reminding it that at least it's legible—unlike the Dingbats, which apparently know the secrets of the universe.

Hoping to make their wedding even more memorable, many grooms and brides have chosen to do choreographed first dances. These can range from the traditional to the fun, but at one particular wedding, the twist was not on the dance itself, but its protagonist. A viral video shows a groom and his mother sharing a raucous mom-son dance for the ages—complete with coordinated hip-hop moves.

The video begins with the groom and his mom getting ready for a traditional dance, only to be interrupted by the song “Crank That” by Soulja Boy. The mother looks confused at first, and stands awkwardly while her son quietly hypes up the crowd. In a matter of seconds, the mom gets a daring grin on her face as well—she is part of the ruse, and her bewildered expression was just part of the act.

The moment the lyrics of the song begin, mother and son jump into a carefully coordinated choreography, inspiring guests to excitedly cheer. Their moves go hard, and neither of them miss a beat. The song then switches up to “Greased Lightning'” recreating the iconic moves of John Travolta. The medley then fast forwards to the present—specifically to The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” before closing with the daring moves of “Beat It” by Michael Jackson.

The confidence with which this mom and son execute their routine speaks not only to their hours of practice, but also to their shared trust and love for one another. Watch the entire choreography in the video below.

Another Christmas as the last unmarried in my family
byu/TheDeepBlueZ infunny

The holidays are a special time of year when families try to gather together. In addition to gift-giving, dinners, and quality time, these occasions are usually marked with group portraits. One man has documented what it looks and feels like to be the last unmarried person in the family in a series of Christmas photos.

Redditor TheDeepBlueZ posted a photo collage that stretches from 2016 to 2023. Each picture includes his siblings kissing their respective partners, while he poses as the only single person in the back-center of the composition (except in 2018, when he appears to be absent from the Christmas gathering). By mimicking the same composition each year, we are able to find the similarities and differences in each person. The couples change slightly in their appearances with each passing year, but TheDeepBlueZ always wears the same ironic expression as he tilts his head in the background. Whether he is annoyed or neutral about the situation is hard to tell. But he is definitely able to find the humor in it.

For many singles joining social gatherings during the holidays, this series is very relatable. But the most enjoyable aspect is definitely the Redditor's ability to poke fun at the situation. “This tradition is amazing, mostly because of your sense of humor!” one commenter writes. “Thanks for keeping us updated; and if marriage is something you want, I hope you will surprise us next year with a fiance.” While we don't know if marriage is something TheDeepBlueZ actually wants in his future, he has definitely made a tradition of his own with the yearly Christmas updates of him and his family.

Nearly 4o years ago, Wham! debuted their 1986 holiday single “Last Christmas.” The single came along with a black and white cover photo of musicians George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, which has remained an iconic portrayal of the duo. Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney—who jointly own UK soccer team Wrexham—appear to recreate this photo just in time for the holidays.

Though it's actually a Photoshop by a Wrexham fan named Todd Cross (aka DarthPunk69), it is masterfully executed and McElhenney couldn't help but share it with everyone. The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star shared a post on Instagram less than a week before Christmas. It included two of Cross' Photoshopped images of the actors styled in the likeness of the Wham! singers. These pictures were posted alongside the caption “WREXHAM!” and a Christmas tree emoji. The first features McElhenney as Ridgeley, with his hair spiked up, and Reynolds as Michael, with voluminous blond waves, posing in the same manner as the 1986 album cover. If you look closely, you can find the name of McElhenney and Reynolds' soccer team is included as an emblem in the top left-hand corner.

In the second image, the actors replicate the 1983 Wham! album Fantastic. Here, both men wear black leather jackets like 80s singers against a bright red backdrop, and McElhenney even sports a mustache like Ridgeley. The name Wrexham replaces Wham! in bold white text above the duo. In addition to being a bit of fun cosplay, these photos also celebrate the celebrities' rising soccer team and their docuseries Welcome to Wrexham. McElhenney's post was also shared ahead of the 7th anniversary of Michael's death, as the singer passed away on Christmas day in 2016 at the age of 53.

Just in time for the holidays, a soccer fan named Todd Cross decided to recreate the 1986 Wham! vinyl sleeve cover for “Last Christmas” by replacing George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley with the soccer team Wrexham's owners, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

But this wasn't the first nor the last time he would Photoshop the comedic pair. He has recreated multiple Wham! album covers with them.
